Well here we are taking a third and final swing at the new album (current working title "Strange Place Called Home") with producer Jens Nickel in Holodeck Studios in Hannover. We are doing as much live off the floor as possible and now after two weekends of intensive work the album appears to be at last taking shape. There will be several more sessions through June adding guitars, pianos, vocals, pedal steel guitars, banjos, trombones, kazoos, bagpipes and any other things we can think of. Thanks to everyone who has been asking about the cd. We are very close now!

And here the worlds shortest short pop song (800kB, mp3).
Here a quick note to say we just played our first show in Holland last weekend and it seems to have been a success.
An alternative pop festival on the boarder between Bocholt and Arnheim by the name of Dinxpop invited us to play on the the cafe stage of their multi-stage event. As it turned out, when we arrived, the organizer informed us that one of the headliners had not yet shown up. He therefore wanted to know if would get on the big stage immediately and fill in for them. This was of course a great opportunity to play for more people with more lights and sound on so. The show was well received and i have just been informed by the organizer that the the local press DE GELDERLANDER described our concert as the highlight of the festival.
So thanks Holland for a warm welcome for gallop and hello to all fans and friends. We will be in a studio in Hannover this coming May with producer Jens Nickel and hope that by the end of the month we will be able to announce a release date for our coming album, currently going under the working title Strange Place Called Home.
many greetings!
martin.
Die heutigen News kommen diesmal von Christian Decker, Bassist von Fury in the Slaughterhouse:
Live-Tip: Pop-Up Festival am 7.

I've been lagging behind. So many exciting things have been happening in the last 6 weeks.
The Music-Planet 2Nite show with Fury and Ray Cokes went off without a hitch. It was a great experience to get a behind-the-scenes view of the production and it was especially exciting to meet Ray Cokes. He charmed me right away with his winning blend of professional confidence and human warmth. Perhaps the highlight of the evening was singing him the song "A Demo to Ray" written by my friend Scoob. Scoob had actually sent him the song as a Demo but never heard back from him. It was very freaky to be able to deliver him the song live in his own TV show. A moment I'm sure never to forget. It was also a great bonus and a real honour to have Christof the guitar player from Fury get up and join us for the song.
Thanks again and again to the lads from Fury for the invite and the opportunties they have given us. Also many thanks for the thrill of getting up on their stage to help out with the midnight rider. I hope my timing wasn't too off, I had indeed by then drank several tastey beverages.
Thanks to everyone who was involved in making the evening happen: The technical crew, the production team and mostly all the friends and fans who made the trip out to support us!! You did a great job in making us feel at ease inspite of all the cameras.
Bye for now!
martin.

Back home safe and sound from our adventures in Canada and at last with a moment to reflect on the time we had back in my homestead. The five days spent at Metalworks in Toronto were excellent. Joe layed down some inspired drum tracks while Rainer, Jörg and I accompanied him on the floor with so called "ghost tracks". L. Stu Young our engineer and guru was a true pleasure to work with. A real professional who sure hasn't lost site of the fun in recording music. Phil, his assistant, was also a great help and a good guy to have on board. We came in with a lot of borrowed gear, some of it malfunctional, and Stu and Phil, were soon down on their knees digging spring reverbs out of amps and installing them in others, fixing broken hihats and out of tune electric pianos. I bet they haven't had a band that jury-rigged in ages.
The first show in Toronto at the Rivoli on Queen Street was really well received and again we were in good hands with Kathrin the booker and Marlin the Mixer. Bill Colgate, who sings his well written, sturdy country rock tunes with a fine band behind him let us open his Saturday matinee which gave us the chance to play for a warm and receptive crowd.
Then we were off to Peterborough to Jamie and Karl at sound on sound studios (where some of the drum tracks were recorded for the first album) to work on Jörgs keyboard overdubs. It was here that Jörg had his first encounter with a genuine Wurlitzer Electric Piano. Needless to say it was love at first site. Several days were spent squeezing all the ideas out of Jörg we could before letting him disappear to Berlin for two months to write a musical.
After the sessions we'd hurry up to the Red Dog Tavern before the 2am beer stop and sample some of the canadian brews and get a taste of some really great local music. Highlights were Bobby Watson, Terry Guile and The Webber Brothers all of whom we had the pleasure of getting up on stage with for a number here and there. Very inspiring!
The day before we left we had our own show there with the young and very talented Jamie McKenty + Band opening for us. (Watch for that guy and his new CD soon!!) It was a great crowd of friends old and new and a real pleasure to play for them. (press here for a review of the concert)
The last day was spent running around bringing back all the gear we'd borrowed and returning the great Rico (our trusty station wagon) to his riteful masters Karen and Wayne.
Thanks to the wonders of modern techology one can download a video of our trip, or enjoy of a gallery of stills.
Mike Meredith for great hospitality, amazing red wine and dining, good home entertainnment and incredible patience! Let us pay you back in the summer mikey. Wes and Wayne and Karen Eardley for Rico, the beds and beer and the road hockey!! Wayne o'Connor for the Vibrocool, the Rhodes and Wurli, the Dynachord and the good vibes!!John Crown for the fun Jam and the screamer! Kenny Greer for the space echochocho. Mike Bell for getting the Red Dog gig, wire web support, and friendship. Randy Gray for the drums (they sound great on tape!) Sherry, Max, Robyn and Paul Gallop for hospitalty and loyal fanhood! and Brent and Frances too for some good burgers on Harbourd and all the enthusiasm. Rob Phillips for the real deal leslie, with delivery...too much! Andrew Afleck for the Polytone tone. Karl and Jamie at sound on sound for treating us well and surrendering your space. always a pleasure! Marlin and Kathrin at the Rivoli for good sound and not too much heckling. Bill Colgate and company for lending us his stage. Alex at Metalworks for squeezing us in. L Stu Young for going way beyond the call of duty including lending us his brand new not even out of the bag protool rig and coming up to Peterborough to pick it up. We learned a lot!! Phil for always being there when you needed him. Mum and Dad for support and understanding.
Now back in Germany, we are looking ahead to some real highlights on the gig frontier including the Breminale, Aurich Open Air (with the Toten Hosen, and Fury in the Slaughterhouse), Oldenburger Kultursommer, and Saarbrücken (Schlossplatz). Check out the the concert details.
I'll also be hiding away in the rehearsal room every chance I get working away on the vocals and guitars for the new album.
keeping you posted,
martin.
